Alleged “March Pen Road Don” Fatally Shot in Spanish Town Community on Edge

Shooting in Spanish Town Leaves Alleged ‘Don’ Dead

A man identified as Alphonso Samuel McDonald better known in local circles as “Boo”, and alleged to be a “road don” of the March Pen Road area was fatally shot early Thursday in the Corletts Road community of Spanish Town, St. Catherine.

Residents report hearing multiple gunshots around 5:30 a.m. When neighbors investigated, they found McDonald lying face-down outside, clad in a red T-shirt, camouflage pants, black socks, and slippers, with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the head. Police were summoned; McDonald was transported to the local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Investigation Launched – Motive Unknown

The murder has prompted an immediate response from the Spanish Town Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), which has launched a preliminary probe. At this stage, no motive or identified suspects have been publicly disclosed.

Authorities have appealed to community members for information that may lead to arrests. Given the victim’s alleged status as a local gang figure, investigators are also exploring possible links to gang rivalry or retaliatory violence.

Tension High in Community, Calls for Calm

News of the killing has reignited tensions in Spanish Town, particularly within neighbourhoods associated with gang activity. Local residents expressed shock and fear, with some calling for increased police presence in the wake of what many fear could spark further reprisals.

In past instances of similar violence such as the 2024 fatal shooting of a man on March Pen Road during a police operation investigators underscored links to criminal networks operating in the Spanish Town area.

Community leaders are urging calm, cautioning against taking to the streets or spreading unverified rumors. “Let the police do their work,” one resident told reporters, speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of retribution.

Background: March Pen Road, Gang Violence and Police Crackdowns

March Pen Road and surrounding districts in Spanish Town have long been notorious for gang activity, periodic outbreaks of violence, and repeated police interventions. Past operations often led to fatal shootings, arrests, and curfews in affected communities.

In 2024, for example, a man known as Anthony Kemar Richards alias “Ganja” was killed during a police operation in March Pen Road, after allegedly opening fire on officers. Such incidents have repeatedly triggered investigations by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), highlighting ongoing scrutiny of police-involved shootings.

The killing of McDonald, against this fraught backdrop, raises the spectre of further instability and perhaps reprisals a concern among both law-enforcement officials and residents.

What’s Next: Investigation, Community Alert, Police Response

As the police conduct forensic investigations and canvass for witnesses, residents are being urged to stay vigilant, report suspicious activity, and avoid circulating unverified information on social media which could jeopardize the official probe or fuel community panic.

Local civil-society and community watch groups are also calling for an increased and more consistent police presence, especially at night, to deter possible retaliatory attacks and reassure residents.
